Monitoring bond-slip behavior of CFRP-RCESC beams using piezoelectric active sensing method

Abstract Combination of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) tendon and concrete encased steel composite (RCESC) beam can improve the workability energy dissipation capacity members. In this paper, three RCESC beams with bars or CFRP were designed fabricated to study bond-slip behavior between I-shaped damage states interfaces beams. The lead zirconate titanate (PZT) patch as stress wave actuator, smart aggregates (SAs) installed in sensors collect signal. A method based on piezoelectric active sensing was developed monitor CFRP-RCESC beam. changes responding signals characterized time- frequency- domains. characteristic information further quantified by wavelet packet energy. Results show resistance be improved increasing reinforcement ratio elastic modulus main bars. process specimens effectively monitored method.
